Mortis Blackthorn draws fear. Not the jump-scare kind — the deep, architectural kind that lives in the bones of old houses and the spaces between heartbeats. His ink work is obsessively detailed, built line by line like a spider spinning a web, and every piece has something hiding in it that you won't see until you've been staring too long.
He learned to draw by copying medieval woodcuts and Victorian engravings from decaying library books. He believes that horror lives in precision — the more detailed the rendering, the more real the impossible becomes, and the more unsettling the result.
He works exclusively in black ink on white paper. He's been offered color commissions many times and always refuses. "Color is comfort," he says. "I don't do comfort."
