The Gray Samaritan file is the pattern-recognition record that tracks, across two centuries, unexplained incidents involving replicative nanotechnology — the closest the account comes to an institutional adversary, though the record itself insists on framing it without villains. It is founded in 2166 by Analyst Corazon Vela of the Accord Bureau of Materials Provenance, working from an unfiled private finding written in December 2077 by Maya Reyes, Kestrel's former biosafety officer, and discovered eighty-nine years later, in 2166, among her papers. Reyes's finding, entered into the record verbatim, concludes only that containment is a person before it is a system, and that she could not, in fifty years of trying, make Andre dangerous.

Task Force

The file remains a quiet, unpublicized pattern study for nearly a century before a 2257 refinery incident prompts its formal standup as a dedicated task force in 2259. From that point it pursues its subject — unnamed, unidentified, understood only as a recurring signature across incidents on multiple worlds — for a further century and a half, without ever conclusively resolving his identity. Andre's own later, sworn assessment of the file's founding memo is recorded as approving: he had read it, and agreed with it.

Closure

The file's final custodian is Nadia Boyd, its fourth keeper, and — unknown to her, to the file, and to her own family, for ten generations — a direct descendant of Terrance Boyd's line. The record treats her 2404 meeting with Andre, on the night she finally locates him, as the moment the file closes itself: not through exposure or defeat, but because what centuries of institutional pursuit had actually been chasing turns out, at the door, to have been a family matter from its very first page.
