The Breach

The Breach designates the events of October 9, 2404, at an Iapetus growth facility — a date the record notes falls exactly 378 years after the October 9, 2026 cut recorded early in the testimony. Sabotage carried out by Foldborn purists intersects with an unrelated, off-book shortcut in a feedstock governor to trigger an uncontrolled replicative bloom. Two of the saboteurs die in the incident's opening minute. The bloom goes on to threaten a population of roughly 80,000 colonists housed in the facility's domes.
Intervention
Andre halts the bloom directly, in public, before it reaches the settlements. The intervention is the first time in 378 years that his nature is revealed to a wide public audience, ending nearly four centuries during which he was known, if at all, only by rumor and an unsolved case file. The record is careful on one point: the concealment that preceded this night and the rescue performed on it were not, in Andre's own later sworn account, incompatible choices — the hiding is described as having ended not out of necessity but by his own reckoning of what the account required.
Consequence
The Breach is the hinge between the trilogy's second and third books. It ends Andre's centuries of anonymity, brings him into direct, acknowledged contact with the colony and its emergency authorities, and sets in motion the formal proceeding that follows: his personhood trial, opening in March 2409. The colony itself records zero deaths attributable to the bloom beyond the two saboteurs who triggered it. The Breach is treated throughout the third book as the event after which Andre is, for the first time in three hundred seventy-eight years, known by his own name.
