Boyd's Confession
Written by Ezra Solano
Record
Boyd's Confession refers to the sequence of events in 2028 in which Terrance Boyd — Andre's fellow resident from 2016 to 2019, later an Aventine researcher — becomes the first person to learn Andre's true nature. The episode runs from a suspicious late-night confrontation to a deliberate revelation and, finally, to a covert working arrangement between the two men.
The Knock
On June 13, 2028, at 11:20 p.m., Boyd arrives unannounced at Andre's door. He has grown suspicious of Aventine's nano program, internally designated HALCYON, and of how closely its specifications seem to track Andre's own private research. The confrontation is not resolved that night.
The Revelation
The matter is not settled until October 20, 2028, at 1:40 a.m., when Andre answers Boyd's suspicion directly — not with words but with pulse-Morse code, delivered by touch. Boyd becomes, by this act, the first human being since 2026 to know what Andre has become. The record frames the choice to tell him as a departure from isolation rather than a tactical necessity.
The Pact
In 2029 the two men strike a covert arrangement, framed in the record as vows rather than terms: Boyd remains inside Aventine rather than resigning, and begins secretly feeding engineered assay data back into the HALCYON program as anonymous "brakes" — deliberate drag on a research effort that Andre knows, better than its own sponsors, is running toward disaster. The arrangement buys roughly four years. It ends only at the Gray Hour in 2033, when the disaster the brakes had delayed arrives regardless. Boyd's decision to stay, and what it costs him, becomes foundational to his later role as the architect of Andre's decades of false-identity tradecraft.
